General James M. Gavin Power Plant is a 2,600-megawatt supercritical coal-fired power station in the village of Cheshire, Ohio, United States. It is owned by Lightstone Generation LLC, a 50β50 joint venture of The Blackstone Group L.P. and ArcLight Capital. The ICE Maintenance Supervisor directs and supervises employees and contractors maintaining and repairing equipment to achieve efficient, safe, and reliable operation of the plant. Participate in work planning and scheduling activities. Take a collaborative approach to problem solving and use coaching and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, coordinate, plan, direct, and/or organize plant activities including installation, overhaul, alteration, maintenance, and repairs of electrical and mechanical equipment, instruments, controls, or buildings, including capital improvements and various preventative maintenance programs.
- Attend daily ICE kickoff meetings. Have day-to-day ownership of ICE issues. Formulate and execute action required to resolve immediate equipment problems. Collaborate with energy production, maintenance personnel, and others to ensure equipment is repaired safely and efficiently.
- Conduct thorough job briefs using 3-way communication and a strong focus on hazard identification and elimination. Maintain and ensure safe working conditions, use of proper tools and equipment, and protective clothing & devices. Check and maintain assigned housekeeping areas. Conduct debriefs with employees to ascertain job status and seek feedback (parts used/needed, roadblocks, housekeeping issues, improvement ideas).
- Actively seek ways to improve productivity and eliminate waste. Investigate abnormal operating conditions, equipment failures, equipment design issues, operating and maintenance problems. Identify and analyze root causes and drive continuous improvement with crew members and others through waste elimination and implementation of ideas.
- Research, pursue, and follow up on any outstanding material needed for the job. Review, update, revise PM model work orders. Participate in day-to-day, outage, and major project planning and scheduling activities. Assist in developing plans to improve outage efficiency.
- Prepare reports and share performance metrics with employees. Use PaSTA for work week planning and scheduling. Set clear expectations and provide coaching and feedback to encourage desired behaviors and drive continuous improvement. Oversee and supervise technical and safety training of assigned employees. Ensure employees are adequately trained and afforded reasonable opportunities to progress to the next level in the organization.
- Share contractor coordination duties amongst ICE planners and PSLs (Elevators, HVAC, Switchgear maintenance, Cranes, Electricians, etc.). Assist with developing work scope for contractor bids and contracts, requesting contractor quotes and contract requests, tracking budgets, and working with accounting on actual cost of jobs as needed. Assist with providing input to annual budget and monthly forecasts. Assist in the development of long- and short-range plans for maintenance, capital improvement, availability, and safety.
- Participate in On Call rotation. Work fair share of ICE exempt overtime which at times may include weekend or night shift coverage for urgent jobs or startup
- Cover for other ICE PSLs when Perform ICE Planner tasks when needed. Fill in for ICE superintendent when needed.
- Supervise all work activities in accordance with the policies, practices, standards, and rules of the company. Attend ICE monthly safety meetings. Conduct meetings periodically (in rotation with ICE PSLs). Participate in accident investigations and the use of root cause analysis or other methods to maintain a safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate Degree in a related technical field or equivalent.
- 6 years power plant instrumentation and controls experience or related industry instrument and controls experience (Pulp, Paper, Chemical or Refinery environment).
- Analytical skills and the ability to develop solutions to problems, along with a strong background in project management and execution including planning and scheduling.
- Interpersonal, communications, and leadership skills to coordinate and accomplish objectives through collaboration with other involved company personnel, team members, technicians, contractors, vendors, etc.
- Computer Skills: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint); Experience with OSisoft (PI), Work Management systems (such as Asset Suite and PaSTA).
