Job Title: Juvenile SUD Counselor/Case Manager

SUMMARY:
The Counselor works under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, s/he is responsible for designing and implementing client services with juveniles that address the agency’s mission and are provided in a manner consistent with the organization’s vision and values. This is an hourly position with hours and schedule established to meet consumer needs. This position is “non-exempt” from wage and hour regulations, as defined by the U.S, Department of Labor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understands and conducts business in accordance with the Agency’s mission, vision and values statement.
- Implement programming that addresses client needs and meets all applicable standards.
- Recommends a system of clinical programming for achieving budget goals and assuring quality of care by adhering to relevant best practices and State mandated requirements.
- Maintains a minimum of 60% direct service time.
- Maintains documents in client charts.
- Participates in quarterly peer reviews.
- Participates in the comprehensive assessment of new clients.
- Meets individually with clients to assist them in developing realistic, effective and measurable treatment plans.
- Employs solution-oriented strategies of intervention that are consistent with agency principles, including cognitive, strategic and/or behavioral therapies and techniques, as clinically appropriate.
- Conducts urinalysis testing.
- Leads groups utilizing multi-dimensional modalities including skills development and balance individual needs as well as group needs to achieve a desired group goal.
- Intervenes using appropriate crisis intervention skills and anticipates and prevents crisis as necessary.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Participates in scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
- Adheres to the programs Critical Elements.
- Maintains appropriate client records which meet standards at all times.
- Promotes effective teamwork adequate to the competitive environment, including flexibility, creativity and cohesiveness.
- Provides training to other staff as requested.
- Facilitates transportation to meet client needs.
- Ensures that services are documented in the agency software system daily.
- Refers and follows up on referrals to ancillary services.
- Communicates with the justice system and treatment facilities to coordinate client needs.
- Ensures that clinical decisions are made in the best interest of the client.

- Performs other duties as deemed as necessary and appropriate by supervisor.

- Communication: Ability to proficiently read, write, understand, and communicate in English commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position to understand and respond to policies, procedures, and alarms, in the manner that will ensure personal health and safety of other staff, consumers, and visitors, during the course of an emergency or an unusual incident, should one occur while present at the work site or in the facility.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have demonstrated extensive experience in the treatment and care of consumers who have mental health, substance abuse or trauma related issues.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or other human service field preferred.
- Must be licensed by appropriate credentialing board. May be under supervision for licensure.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain automobile insurance.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Must have at least one year of substance abuse experience.
- Must demonstrate the ability of effectively function as an agency team member.
- Must demonstrate the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Must demonstrate the ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment in significant matters.
- Must demonstrate the ability to relate with empathy and sensitivity to staff, clients and the community.
- Must have good organizational, communication and language skills.
- Must possess general computer knowledge and general office equipment familiarity.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people.
