The Gallipolis Developmental Center is located along the Ohio River within the historic city of Gallipolis. We provide off-campus work/habilitative activities provided during the day. In addition, we also have an Activity Center on-ground for habilitation, recreation, work-readiness and therapeutic training for individuals choosing those activities. We also provide a full array of health services, as well.

What You'll Do:

Performs routine non-skilled grounds maintenance duties (e.g., mows, trims & edges lawns; applies mulch, weeds &
waters lawns & flower beds; trims shrubs; cleans grounds, sidewalks & parking lots by removing papers & debris &
operating vacuum sweeper/power washer; uses hand shovel & broom to remove snow & ice; operates power snow
shovel when necessary).


Performs general custodial & maintenance duties (e.g., delivers materials & equipment); does routine maintenance of
grounds equipment (e.g., cleans, paints, oils, sharpens); performs routine building maintenance & custodial duties as
assigned.


Fertilizes lawns, trees & shrubs; plants trees, shrubs & other plants; seeds & sods lawns; sprays to control insects &
disease as needed; participates in removal of dead animals.

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; in Department Of Natural Resources only, if assigned to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of revised code, must also possess valid commercial drivers license; in accordance with Section 124.11 (b)(2) of revised code, Director Of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.

  • The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Rule 5123-2-02, β€œBackground Investigations for Employment,” outlines disqualifying offenses that will preclude an applicant from being employed by the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
  • The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive result will not be offered employment.
