The University of Rio Grande is seeking a full-time Director of Esports/Head Coach to oversee the continued success of the varsity program (initially launched in 2020).
 
Position Summary
This on-campus, 12-month administrative position will manage all aspects of the program, including, but not limited to, practice planning, game preparation/scouting, in-game coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, team travel (if applicable), equipment/apparel purchasing, staff supervision (if applicable), academic monitoring, and general supervision of student-athletes. The Esports coach will also provide input into the selection of games and tournaments in which to participate.
 
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for recruiting and coaching esports student-athletes.
  • Work with student-athletes and Athletic Director to provide leadership to help our players grow both in and out of the arena.
  • Work collaboratively with other head coaches, admissions and financial aid staff and other campus employees.
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes for the Esports program meeting specific roster sizes.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions for recruiting and enrolling prospective student-athletes.
  • Ensure the program recruitment activities and adhere to University and NECC policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership for the team; establish coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student-athletes’ skills and teamwork; analyze team performance and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Coordinate off-season, practice and competition schedules. 
  • Assist with team travel when necessary.
  • Run camps, clinics, and promotional events (if applicable). Continuously ensure personal behavior and program reputation are in alignment with the institution values and mission.
  • Monitor, assist, and nurture student-athletes’ academic progress at the college·
  • Responsible for distributing athletic scholarship to the members of the eSports team
  • Manage social media including Twitter, Twitch, Instagram, and Facebook for the team.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
Position Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Competitive video gaming experience and experience recruiting high school and/or college students preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who have competitive experience in Esports titles, especially League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Valorant, Rainbow 6, and/or Rocket League.
